National Grump Out Day! - May 7, 2008

Apparently today is "National Grump Out Day!"

We say.. just say NOOOO to that! Although with today's slang it sounds like it means give yourself a day of amazing Grumpiness... it actually means to NOT be Grumpy for a day.

WTF???

Who needs that?

Just say NO to National Grump Out Day! After all, Grumpy is GOOD!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

That is all...

GRGR newsletter looks COOL! - April 3, 2008

Hey Grumpies.. those of you who said 'yes' to that GRGR newsletter invite already saw how friggin cool this is. The rest of you wary Grumpies.. check it out!

http://www.americassweetheart.tv/grgrnewsletter/GRGR_Newsletter_April_08.html

The discount coupon for the April 16th show will be going out soon, so keep an eye out!

Slight change to the night.. due to time constraints, and the incredible Trish being one of the absolute busiest women we know, we had to get someone else to help out on drums. Sniff sniff...

BUT.. never fear.. Phil B from G-spot is here.. or will be there.. or you know...

No worries Grumpies... we will, we will Grump you!

The new "Grumpy" theme song! - March 24, 2008

Hellloooooo Grumpies! Hard to believe it's only been a little over a month since the Hank's show, and that Easter & changing the clocks for Daylight Savings have already come and gone! It feels like forever
already and LOKI THE GRUMP misses you terribly!

So... we've been working hard on a couple of new songs and we're THRILLED to be presenting these to you on April 16th!! Get ready for your new theme song... ;)-

And we're playing at a cool new club, for us anyway. So lots o'new Grumpy stuff going on. AND, if you are an "official" Grumpy (as in, on the Grumpy eList), you'll be getting A SPECIAL DISCOUNT COUPON for $2 off at the door, which will be coming in a separate email. Since it IS a new club, we could really use your support at the show. (Not an official Grumpy yet?... join the eList, it's not too late!) Here are the details:

And.. what appears to now be part of new drummer Christian's grumpy m.o... he has gone and broken his wrist (for those of you at the Hank's show you might remember he had pneumonia!)

SO... although he WILL be there and we might force him to do some one-handed percussion or something.. (tambourine on an LTG song? hmmmmm).. Phil B. from G-spot kindly jumped in last minute to help us out that night!

And extremely talented singer/songwriter Garry Novikoff, who has now become your favorite LTG bkg vocalist (we just know this), will be there as well with bells.. or red pants.. or both on! One never knows with Garry... (His new CD is just about to be released.. look out for that one!)

We are flying solo this show... as in no GRGR this night! However... some amazing GRGR plans are in progress at the moment.
The GRGR grrrls are extremely busy planning the 2008 Tour and its gonna be amazing! To keep everyone updated on all the details, introduce cool bands and keep up with GRGR happenings we are starting a monthly newsletter on April 1st - GRGR band fans (including, of course, official Grumpies) will receive the debut copy and GRGR would love to get your feedback on it! So look out for that as well.

That's it for now Grumpies!

CAN'T WAIT to see you on the 16th! :)-

Hope you have a rockin' day and remember.. it's GOOD to GET GRUMPY!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Rock out & help us get back on tour! - February 9, 2008

Oh lovely Grumpies!! Hope you're having an incredibly good new year so far! 2008 has sure been good for LTG already... Dimitri's shoulder is healing wonderfully AND we're in the midst of writing a bunch of new songs for your grumpily greedy ears. Oh yes.. and it seems we've been selected to compete in the Sam Ash & Shure OriginalSessions national band search 2008/2009. Yes!! (As soon as we have those details we will certainly let you know!)

AND, most importantly right now... THE PLANS FOR THE 2008 GRGR TOUR ARE NOW IN PROGRESS!!

(A bunch of the following text was stolen from the G-spot mailing, we must admit..): Last year we had a fantastic time and GRGR rocked out in 12 cities and featured 35 fantastic femme rockers - We can't stop now...

But like any burgeoning endeavor funding is always a challenge, so to kick off the new year we are holding our first ever Girls Rock & Girls Rule Fundraiser at Hanks Saloon in Brooklyn on Feb. 9th. So make sure you save the date!

Saturday February 9, 2008
Hank's Saloon
46 Third Ave @ Atlantic
Brooklyn NY
Doors @ 7:00pm, Music begins @7:30pm
Suggested donation: $5
www.hankssaloon.com
(Atlantic station in Brooklyn - bunch of trains go there...)

Featuring Core Bands: Loki the Grump, G-spot, Marisa Mini, RewBee
And introducing two new bands to GRGR; America's Sweetheart, and bluhammock recording artist Swati.
PLUS special treat: GRGR emcee (and honorary grrl) Garry Novikoff will host AND open the show! AND sing back-up once again with Loki the Grump!

Suggested donation is $5.00, and donors will receive a Free Girls Rock & Girls Rule T-shirt while supplies last. The fabulous and multi-talented Rew and Marisa will even custom design it for you onsite!

Loki the Grump will have some more of our "Live & Rarities" CD which was given out at the last show, with ADDITIONAL SONGS not on the last CD. So even if you have that one, you'll still want THIS one!

Proceeds will be used to help the tour get back on the road in 2008 where we will once again storm the country bringing recognition to dozens of artists and giving back to women and girls in the community.
As you may recall in 2007, GRGR donated a portion of proceeds to Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, and the funds raised will be used to create a Girls Rock & Girls Rule scholarship(!!) that will send a girl to WMRC this coming summer as well as provide a guitar and amp for the camp.
(BTW GRGR is also seeking sponsors for 2008 so please tell us if you know anyone who might be interested.)

And if you STILL need yet another reason to come to this show.. we'll be playing a couple of songs we've had to leave out the last few shows! So there!
Now you have NO excuse!! ;)-

February 9th! Calendar! Mark it!GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Shockingly Happy Holidaze!! - December 23, 2007

Heya Grumpies... hope you're having a great December so far and are prepared for the swiftly approaching holiday chaos!!

December has been busy so far for your fave neighborhood Grumps, and
we are preparing some Grumpilicious things for you for 2008!

Dimitri went under the knife for some shoulder surgery earlier this month to get it back in good working order. He plans on doing some serious windmills for you at the next show, which will be in February/March.

During his healing time, we are working on a bunch of new songs for your aural Grumpy pleasure, in the same twisted fun style that you have come to crave. Yes, we know.. it's like White Castle!

We are also in the process of mixing songs for what will be a very limited edition pressing. Join the Grumpy eList to get the updates!

In the meantime, dear Grumpy.. lest you go through horrible LTG withdrawal... we have some links for you to enjoy visual and aural Grumpy goodness:

LTG on the 2007 Girls Rock & Girls Rule Tour! - June 19, 2007

Rockin´ and Ragin´, Snarlin´ and Screamin´, The Real Girls of Rock are Back With A Vengeance!

The 2007 Girls Rock & Girls Rule Tour!

"What do you get when you put a bunch of kick-a#$ rock chicks together with a sense of purpose? You get a better world –or at the very least a good step towards one—with one great soundtrack" StephenBailey.com

For the past 5 years Girls Rock & Girls Rule has featured the best female rockers on the music scene and this year they continue their mission of creating awareness and exposure for independent female artists while helping women and girls in the community. This year´s tour is going to be bigger and better than ever when GRGR storms the Northeast showcasing phenomenal performers groovin´ on everything from pop-rock, to punk, to metal to hardcore! And GRGR is thrilled to be able to give back and support the next generation of girls who rock through their new partnership with Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.

This year´s GRGR tour is hitting many more cities and will feature a group of artists who are rocking harder then you could ever imagine. These girls like boys, they play with boys, but they are not one of the boys - they are the real girls of rock and their stage presence, voices, playing and songwriting can stand up against anything!

The 2007 Girls Rock & Girls Rule tour will kick off with special preview shows this August in Hoboken, NJ and Long Island, and then hit the road for 10 days from September 21-September 30. GRGR kicks off in Washington, DC and then travels through Baltimore, Delaware, Pennsylvania, NJ, NY, MA, and RI, and finally ending up back home in Brooklyn, NY (see full tour schedule below). The shows feature GRGR bands from the past events including four core tour bands; G-spot, Loki the Grump, Marisa Mini and RewBee who will be partnered in each city with their local sister bands. This insures a strong local audience and gives bands an opportunity to gain exposure with new fans while offering local live music lovers some fresh new sounds they might not otherwise have had a chance to hear. Bands that are currently scheduled to appear include; Edible Red, Infernophonic, The Catholic Girls, All Out Riot, Dormitory Effect, Esmirelda & The Tidbits, The Twats, Olivia & the Housemates, Semiblind, Soraia, Control Freaks, Odd Girl Out, The Degenerettes, Prima Donna, Spark is a Diamond, If Man is Five, Sanity Is Chaos, Silence Bleeds, Cootie Shot and Cheap Perfume with many more to be announced. In addition, there will be special guest appearances at select shows from Willie Mae Rock Camp camper bands and a portion of the proceeds from each event and from sponsors will be donated to Willie Mae.

In addition to the showcases, the Girls Rock & Girls Rule Documentary film is in production and scheduled for release in December 2007. It will premiere at the NYC 6th Anniversary showcase, but fans will have a chance to get a sneak peek at tour stops this fall. The film follows the ladies on tour, showcasing the live performances while taking you on a fascinating journey with today´s hardest rockin´ female musicians. Audiences will learn what it really means to be an independent female artist today, share their struggles and successes, and have a chance to experience these ladies ragin´, rantin´, snarlin´ and screamin´ both on and off stage!

Given the challenging state of the music industry, GRGR is on the cutting edge of the next trend in music bringing female rockers to the forefront today. The time has come for a platform that will bring attention to all the fantastic women who are making the kind of music people want to hear. These are not re-touched pop princesses or radio clones, they are unique, original and ready to show the world they can rock as hard if not harder than their male counterparts!

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls was founded in 2004 and is a New York City-based non-profit summer day camp serving girls aged 8-18. The program offers girls the chance to learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, perform, learn about different types of music, and generally "rock out" in a supportive environment that fosters self-confidence, self-esteem, creativity, tolerance, and collaboration. The camp is named after Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton, a blues and rock performer/songwriter who was one of the first women to play the music that came to be known as "rock n´ roll." The camp grew out of the Portland, Oregon-based program Rock n´ Roll Camp for Girls, which was founded in 2000. (www.williemaerockcamp.org)

GRGR thanks onlinegigs.com for their help with booking this year´s tour as well as sponsors Sam Ash and Jakprints.

Dec 2nd - Save the Grumpy date! - November 8, 2006

Helloooo Grumpies... hope you're having a Grumpy good Fall!

We took a bit of a break after our Girls Rock & Girls Rule mini-tour, which took us from Ithaca, to Elmira, back to Ithaca, and then to Long Island for some incredibly rocking shows!

After some rest and relaxation (yeah, right) we shall close out the year for Girls Rock & Girls Rule back in good ole NYC, with a very special guest guitarist... that's right Grumpies.. it's the return of HOWIE, for one night only! Don't miss it:

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2006

And, the staple GRGR snack, Luna Bars!

And the bands? Fuhgeddabout it!

AMAZING, AMAZING bands, from here AND from our mini-tour. In fact.. two of our FAVORITE bands from upstate (If Man Is Five & Missing Marcus) are FINALLY coming down to rock this show! And you, Grumpies, MUST stay for them cause you will love them as much as we do!

Not to mention our dear, dear local buddies: Loudlife, G-spot and RewBee!

And new buddies from the Long Island show: Sea of Static & Stark!

And probably-future-buddies-but-we-haven't-met-them-yet from Philadelphia: September

To kick off the night, Gail (G-spot & creator of this whole crazy entity of GRGR) booked some rockin' chicks from the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls where she volunteered this summer, which'll be REALLY cool! Why? Well... starting off is the Willie Mae Volunteer Band which will treat you to amazing covers of Ironman & Cherry Bomb. Following that and opening the show will be camper band Electric Blue featuring the next generation of girl rockers (ages 11-18)! How cool is that??!?

So, after that, the awesome GRGR Line-up, which is made up of MANY Grumpies by the way, is:

Loudlife, September, Loki the Grump, Sea of Static, G-spot, Rewbee, Stark, Missing Marcus, If Man is Five

SO.. make sure you put this on your calendar now! This is the BEST way to kick off the Holiday season, and to celebrate and support women in music and the community and the live music scene (before all the clubs disappear)!
